John Charles Upshaw

Mr. Upshaw was born on October 18, 1941 in Atlanta, GA, son of the late Murray Lowe Upshaw and Bette Raines Upshaw.

Mr. Upshaw retired from the United States Postal Service in Rydal, GA as a mail carrier after many years of dedicated employment. In his spare time he enjoyed driving heavy equipment, taking trips to the mountains for the Rod Run, and cooking BBQ for his family and friends. He was a proud member of Pinelog United Methodist Church in Rydal, GA.

Mr. Upshaw is preceded in death by his brother, Murray Lowe Upshaw, Jr.

Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Glenda Scoggins Upshaw; daughters, Johnna (Tim) Thurman and Amy (Tod) Olsen; sons, Murray (Connie) Upshaw and Brent (Lynn) Upshaw; grandchildren, Lindsay and Jordan Olsen, Jake Thurman and Darren Bryan; brother, Tom (Jane) Upshaw; along with several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at three-thirty in the afternoon on Saturday, the 3rd of February, 2018 at Pine Log United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Kirk Bozeman officiating.

Serving as pallbearers are Jake Thurman, Darren Bryan, Mitchell Scoggins, Brandon Jacobs, Waymon Atchley and Wayne Jarrett.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from one o’clock in the afternoon until three on Saturday, the 3rd of February, 2018 at Owen Funeral Home.
