John D. Flowers

Mr. Flowers was born September 21, 1939 in Bartow County, a son of the late Edgar E. Flowers and Gladys Trantham Flowers. He was an active member of the Atco Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and helped drive the church bus. John was retired from Days Chevrolet where he was the Parts Manager. He enjoyed restoring old cars, auto racing, and sitting on the porch watching the birds.

Preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Padgett Flowers, he is survived by his daughter and son in law, Carrie and Derek Mackey, of Cartersville, his granddaughter and her husband, Charity and Ronnie Messer, his great grandson, Collin Messer, two brothers, Milton Flowers and Joel Flowers, both of Cartersville and two sisters, Martha Graves and Mary Kate Sweat, both of Cartersville.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Bud Flowers.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 17, 2013 from the Chapel of the Owen Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Boatfield officiating. Interment will follow in the Zion Hill cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to Operation Christmas Child in care of the Atco Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 till 3:00 P.M. Tuesday.
