Jerry Alvon Simmons Sr.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 46 years, Patricia Alday Simmons, his parents Delmar and Verna (May) Simmons, and his brother Billy Simmons. He is survived by his sister, Nita Ivy, his three sons: Jerry (Carolyn) Simmons, Jr., David Simmons, and Del (Stacy) Simmons; and six dearly cherished grandchildren: Warren, Claudia, Aaron, Joshua, Camille and Amanda.

Born on March 1, 1935 in Greenville, MS, Jerry was a graduate of the University of Mississippi and a veteran of the United States Navy. After completing his military service, Jerry worked for BellSouth until his retirement in Atlanta in 1991. His career with the telephone company took him to nearly as many places as his service with the Navy, living in Hoover, AL; Covington, LA; Summit, NJ, then Cartersville, GA. He and Patricia lived for many years at 40 Etowah Drive in Cartersville and considered it home.

A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Friday, October 7, 2022 in the chapel of Owen Funeral Home, Rev. Josh James officiating. The interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cartersville, GA. The family will receive friends on Friday October 7, 2022 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm.
