Janie Carter Baker

Janie is preceded in death by her loving husband, Carl Baker; parents Otha and Tava Carter; eight brothers and sisters. She is survived by her children, Dennis (Sue) Baker, Carlene (Ted) Perry; grandchildren, Terri (Chris) Gauldin, Carter Baker, Janna (David) Lister, Trey (Heather) Novotny; Alice Perry; great grandchildren, Anna, Alex, Andrew Gauldin, Emma, Olivia, Sophia Baker, Kate and Calvin Self; great great grandchild, Ivey Jane Gauldin. Also a special mention of her devoted and loving caregivers, Helen Kelsey, Vivian Smith, April White, Janice Wheeler, Fredda Flowers and Doris Leathers.

Janie was a selfless and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Most of all she loved family! She enjoyed any opportunity to gather together with cooking and celebrating to enjoy being together. She was also a self-taught and excellent seamstress making clothes through the years for family and friends. She was also known for her “green thumb” as anything would grow in her care. Her home was full of plants that she nurtured and enjoyed watching them thrive.

Janie was a member of Sam Jones Methodist Church for over 50 years.

The family will receive friends on Monday, April 17, 2023 from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm at Owen Funeral Home. A Graveside Service will be conducted at 3:30 pm on Monday, April 17, 2023 at Sunset Memory Gardens with a pastor from Sam Jones United Methodist Church officiating.
