

James Herbert Burel, 92, of Cartersville, Georgia, formerly of Peachtree City, GA, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 11, 2025. Born on November 19, 1932, James was the son of Vertis Burel and Mildred Cook Burel.
He was a native of Hapeville, Ga, where he attended Hapeville High School and later graduated from Georgia State University with a BBA degree. James was a veteran of the United States Army who proudly served his country during the Korean War. After returning home from the service, James married his childhood sweetheart, Jeanne. They shared 68 wonderful years of marriage. He had a successful career in the trucking industry, eventually owning his own business, Accurate, Inc. He retired at the age of 74 to enjoy traveling with Jeanne and spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jeanne Wasden Burel, and brothers Norman Burel, Raymond Burel and Edward Burel. A beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather, James was affectionately known as “Herbie” to many who loved him and “Gigi” to his adoring grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his sister, Beverly Haist; daughter, Pamela B. LaBrecque (Bryan); son, Brad Burel (April); grandsons, Brett Labrecque (Mary) and Steven LaBrecque (Sarah); granddaughter, Rachel B. Powell (Chris); great-grandsons, Theodore LaBrecque, Elijah Powell and Oliver Powell; and great-granddaughters Claire LaBrecque, Nora LaBrecque and Lilly Powell.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Owens Funeral Home in Cartersville, Ga. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. with the service to follow at 11 a.m. in the chapel.
