While Gary was a teenager in high school, he met Deloris Ragsdale and on June 23, 1956 they married. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to Cartersville where he and Deloris spent sixty-five loving years together before his passing.
Gary enlisted in the United States Army after high school and served two years. He was recalled again in his early twenties for another term of service. Gary always dreamed of serving in public safety with the Georgia State Patrol which he did with great success for thirty-four dedicated years, retiring as a sergeant.
In his spare time, Gary enjoyed playing golf at the Cartersville Country Club where he was a member for over 50 years. He loved reading W.E.B. Griffin novels and watching Perry Mason on TV. Gary was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, neighbor, and friend who will be deeply missed.
Gary is survived by his wife, Deloris Gazaway; son, Wayne (wife, Rhonda) Gazaway; grandchild, Brooke Temples; great grandchild, Zoe Temples; and many extended family and friends to cherish his memory.
Those who know him well will remember Gary’s love for animals. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Etowah Valley Humane Society at www.etowahvalleyhumane.org
