It is hard to believe we have been without the fun of Elsie for 2 years. My favorite story about her is my husband taking her to JD's restaurant while I went to casino night at Holbrook. I think it was only a couple of weeks before she died. She only ordered fried okra and I told her if she was that "cheap" of a date, she could go with him again. My husband died January 13, 2024. I miss both of them. Hope they are having fun together in heaven.

We were so blessed to have Elsie in our lives at Holbrook even though it was for a short time. She could always put a smile on our face or make us laugh. The world would be a better place if we had more people like her. 

May God bless her family with their wonderful memories. The photos are very nice especially since we didn't know her when she was young.

Part Two

In hindsight, Aunt Elsie was always trying to improve me.  I loved the details she shared in those improvement opportunities and still carry with me many of those imperatives.  Both large and small lessons were far reaching in subject.  In fact, since her death I remembered how she is really with me twice daily when simply brushing my teeth.  Once she informed me, perhaps fifty years ago , that brushing my tongue as part of my twice daily dental hygiene was important to control halitosis.  And so, it is true and it has been my practice ever since.  This and so many other life’s essentials were shared by Aunt Elsie along the way.   
As I think of my Aunt Elsie, one of the last of her generation in our family to pass away, it reminds me of how one person can make such an impact in the lives of others.  As is too often the case, we do not realize or do not share this elemental fact of life.  Aunt Elsie’s investment in me, as in others, was impactful in ways I will continue to take account and will cherished.  I am wishing now I had only taken notes.  Rest in peace Aunt Elsie, your work is done.  My prayers for Aunt Elsie and her entire family.

Elsie Jarrett was my aunt.  My mother’s sister.  She was from the same humble rural Alabama beginnings as my mother.  Though they lived miles, and twice across the Atlantic Ocean, apart through the years, they both were famous for their riotous giggles and laughs when together, just as they surely did when they were children.  But they were also very different in their interests and talents.   My Aunt Elsie was the family beauty.  She would disbelieve my assessment with her usual self-deprecation.  However, it was true and known by all the family, except her.  I am sure her grace and elegance were widely accepted wherever life took her.   She was creative and skilled in many areas from fashion and sewing to the culinary arts.  Discounting those skills, by sharing once that both were easy really ‘when you just had the right tools’.  Aunt Elsie was our family’s Martha Stewart.
With my Uncle Russ’ military career, she and her family were intrepid travelers.  Aunt Elsie brought back so many stories of places far from Alabama, geographically and culturally.  All which were interesting and exotic to me .  In a single word she was fascinating.  With her world-class skill for conversation, she could weave in seemingly random facts and anecdotes with passionate precision all leading back to the original topic. A conversation with Aunt Elsie was in fact a sojourn.  She was an educator and an evangelist for the knowledge she gained in her life.  The information was often presented as critical knowledge and key to a well-rounded life.   To be continued in second Condolence.    I am my aunt's nephew after all.  2000 characters is too limiting for such a life... 

Elsie was so loved and is already so missed here at Holbrook of Acworth.  She was definitely a bright light for us with her amazing quick wit and her delightful smile.  Although I only moved here myself last summer, I am so very thankful to have known Elsie and to have had her friendship.  Elsie spread sunshine everywhere she went.  Thank you Elsie!
     May all her family find comfort in happy and joyful memories.
