Douglas "Doug" Kenneth Anderson, affectionately known as Papa to his biggest fans, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2024, at the age of 78. He leaves behind a legacy of selflessness, kindness, and unwavering dedication to his family.
Doug is preceded in death by his father, Douglas Kenneth Anderson Sr., his mother Mildred Gindl Anderson and his brother William “Billy” Anderson. He is survived by his wife Barbara Calbert Anderson. His daughters, Julie Anderson McCary(Scott) and Caitlin Anderson Churchman(John). His grandchildren Emma McCary Sauls(Cole), Anderson McCary, Welles Churchman and William Churchman. His siblings, Bonnie Anderson Ard, Paul Anderson and Gary Anderson.
Born August 11, 1945 in Pensacola, FL, Doug was the first born of Douglas “Kick” Anderson and Mildred Gindl Anderson. Throughout his life, Doug exemplified genuine friendship and compassion, but he would tell you that his greatest accomplishment was dedicating his life to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Doug was a devoted husband to Barbara Calbert Anderson, his wife for 56 years. They lived and raised children surrounded by many friends in Tucker, GA. He was a loving father to Julie Anderson McCary and Caitlin Anderson Churchman, instilling in them values of integrity, hard work, and selflessness. As "Papa", Doug delighted in the joys of being a grandparent, adoring Emma, Anderson, Welles and William, creating lasting bonds filled with laughter, encouragement and constant support.
Professionally, Doug enjoyed a successful career in construction where his expertise earned him respect among colleagues and admiration from those he mentored.
Beyond his professional achievements, Doug had a passion for all things sports especially golf and baseball. He spent many hours pouring his talents into young men on the baseball field through coaching. He was known for his quick wit, infectious laugh, and the ability to uplift others with his kind-hearted nature.
In his spare time, Doug enjoyed collecting baseball cards and perfecting his yard, often sharing these passions with family and friends. His presence at gatherings was a source of laughter, comfort and joy, as he effortlessly brought people together with his warmth and genuine interest in others.
Doug will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will forever be cherished by his family, friends, and the countless lives he touched
A memorial service to celebrate Doug's life will be held at Owen Funeral Home, Cartersville, GA, Saturday June 22nd at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Tunnel to Towers, reflecting Doug's spirit of generosity and love for his country.
