David Lee Gaddis, 75, of Cartersville, Georgia was called home to God Thursday, August 4th, 2016 at his home. He was born on November 16th, 1940 in Cartersville to the late Roy Lee Gaddis and Vara Elizabeth Crowe Gaddis.
David graduated from Cartersville High School in 1959, and enlisted in the United States Navy. He was a Vietnam Veteran. His Navy Assignments consisted of duty of Navy Destroyers and shore commands. He also served on Project Mercury and Apollo Communications staff duty. Upon completing 8 years of service in the U.S. Navy, he worked as a Federal employee for the U.S. Navy Department. He retired in 1994 from the U.S. Naval Communications Headquarters in Washington, D.C.
David will be remembered as a compassionate and loving person who loved family gatherings. The Classic Auto Shows will remember him and his 1963 model Chevy Impala. His priorities in life were God, his beloved Alma, and his zest to live life to the absolute fullest. David was Grandson of the late Preacher George V. and Bertie Crowe, and was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where he loved to help with singing in the church choir. David’s favorite scripture was “Peace from God. John 14:27.”
David is preceded in death by, his parents and one brother; Jimmy Gaddis. He is survived by his beloved wife, Alma Schoefer Gaddis, whom he happily be wed on May 28th, 1994. Mr. Gaddis is also survived by daughter, Tracie Marie Helton, Sister, Cathy Coffey,( Chip), Brother, Clark, Cousins, Judy Prather, Richard Goddard, and Ginny Hobgood.
Funeral Services to honor the life of David are to take place on Sunday, August 7th, 2016 at 3:00 PM from the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Cartersville. Dr. Don Hattaway will be officiating the service. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens in Cartersville with U.S. Navy Honors.
The Family will receive friends Saturday, August 6th, 2016 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Owen Funeral Home in Cartersville.
The gentleman serving as Pallbearers are as follows: Richard Goddard, Freddie Hines, Gerald Ray, Eddie McDaniel, Lewis Templeton, and Scott Templeton. Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of the 1958 Coachman Car Club.
