Mr. Jackson was born in Cartersville, Ga, September 6, 1936, son of the late Louis W and Bea M Jackson. Preceded in death by an infant son David L Jackson.
Mr. Jackson is survived by his wife Sue F. Jackson; son and daughter in law, Don and Cheryl Jackson; daughter and son in law, Camy and Dan Heilman; grandchildren Elly Jackson, Wil Jackson, Anna Jackson, Catie Heilman, and Jackson Heilman.
Mr. Jackson was the owner and operator of Jackson Dairy for 23 years, and the owner of Jackson Properties. Sonny was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He also loved his community and church. He served on numerous committees and positions including Chairman and member of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources for 17 years, member of the State Health Planning and Review Board, Vice President of the 7th District Democratic Party, 7th District Coordinator for the "Busbee for Governor" Campaign, Bartow County Coordinator and Fundraisor for the Joe Frank Harris Campaign, President of the Cartersville Country Club, President of the Euharlee Farmer's Club, Vice President and Director of the Cartersville Bartow Chamber of Commerce, President of the Bartow County Dairy Association, Member of the first Board of Directors for the Humane Society, Director of the C & S Bank, and member of the Elks and Masonic Lodges.
He was a life long member of the Sam Jones Memorial United Methodist Church. Sonny served as a Trustee and Chairman of the Board for ten years. He was instrumental in acquiring the land and the building of the Family Life Center.
Mr. Jackson enjoyed golfing, cooking, Saint Simons Island, gardening and spending time on the farm and with his family.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 at Sam Jones Methodist Church Wednesday, September 30 with Pastors Kevin Lobello and Tommy Green officiating. Burial will follow immediately at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cartersville.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Owen Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will include George Cook, Bobby Joe Womack, Joe Frank Harris, Don Evans, Joe Tilly, Arthur Parker, Jim Smith, Spright Holland, Joel Cowan. Honorary pallbearers include Jimmy Dellinger, Charles Gilreath, Gene Tilley, Terry Jones, Zim Choate.
In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the Sam Jones Methodist building.
Owen Funeral Home, 12 Collins Dr., Cartersville, GA., has charge of the funeral arrangements.
