Mr. Graves is survived by his wife of sixty years, Jane Blake Graves and three children, David Graves, Beverly Graves Baribault and Michael Graves, and four grandchildren; Kimberly Bradfield, Stephen Bradfield, Emily Baribault and Abigail Graves. He was preceded in death by his son, Philip Graves, and his daughter, Marea Graves Bradfield.
Charlie was a veteran of WWII and served in the 8th Air Force, 93rd Bomb Group, 409th Squadron. He was a Technical Sergeant stationed in Hardwick, England, just south of Norwich in East Anglia. As a Crew Chief he was responsible for aircraft maintenance servicing B24 Liberators. Noted campaigns included Normandy, Naples-Foggia, Egypt, Libya, Tunis-Sicily, Air Offensive Europe, Air Combat Central Europe-Northern France, Rhineland-Ardennes and Ploesti Oil Fields, Ploesti, Romania.
Following his WWII service Charlie began working for Delta Airlines in New Orleans and worked as a Station Manager in Toledo, OH; Port-Au-Prince, Haiti; Springfield, MO; and Evansville, IN where he retired after 36 years.
Throughout his life Charlie enjoyed camping and traveling with his wife and children. He was an active member in Rotary International, Delta Pioneers and never missed a chance to have morning coffee with friends.
There will be a visitation at Owen Funeral Home in Cartersville on Wednesday, May 27 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at Savior of All Lutheran Church on Thursday, May 28 at 11:00 am. Burial will be at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA immediately following the service.
