Charles read more books than anyone could count and hoarded even more. He had the jolliest laugh anyone ever witnessed and read the Bible every morning for the last twenty-five years of his life. He marched to the beat of a very different drummer and pursued wild adventures in youth, including running away to become a cowboy in Texas. When that didn’t pan out, he convinced Georgians that aliens had landed at the Etowah Indian Mounds in 1965 after placing a flashing road sign atop the tallest mound.
He settled down to marry his high school sweetheart in 1971. The couple kept their tin cups from which they would drink milk in kindergarten together. He taught his daughters the wonders of science and nature and the omnipotence, omniscience, and omnipresence of God. Charles wholeheartedly loved the Son of Man and was often overwhelmed or awestruck by the power of the Lord. He hated sin and injustice but loved righteousness and truth. He was happiest when communing with nature, woodworking, or building machines.
Charles is preceded in death by his son, Charles Edward Dunn Jr, his sibling, Lila Ann Graham, and parents, Ted and Edna Mae (Cis) Dunn, and son-in-law, Christopher Branton. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Claire, and daughters, Mary Claire Branton and Laura Lund (Zach); granddaughter, Jessica Branton Cusick (Adam); his brother, Reid Dunn (Brenda); brother-in-law, Tom Davis (Michelle); sister-in-law, Lindsey Yeager (Ben); sister-in-law, Therese Davis; nieces and nephews, Kim Dunn Jones, Reid Dunn II (April); nephews Jim Davis (Lily), Jeff Davis, Drew Davis (Chevonn), Julie Davis Low (Mike), Emily Yeager, Mary Francis Kramer, and Ansley Arredondo (Raphael); his cousin, Neal Miller, along with many others and lifelong friends.
