Carol Owen Caswell, age, 74 passed away on January 8, 2023 in Cartersville, Georgia. Carol was born on October 29, 1948, in Atlanta, Georgia, to the late J W (Bill) Owen and Sara Ann Lane (of Rockmart).
Upon graduation, Carol attended Massey Business School. Carol worked later as a Legal Assistant in Marietta, Georgia for Childs, Knight and Britt, LLC and Harry W. Krumenauer, Atty at Law, where she made many special friends whom she loved and spoke of often.
Carol found her calling in Canton, Georgia where she served as Director of the Salvation Army Service Center, Southern Territory. Her dedication to ministering to those who needed it the most was recognized by the community, as well as the non-profit, faith-based organization. Managing the Christmas Programs – Angel Tree, Adopt-A-Family, Christmas Food Assistance, Toys for Tots (w/USMC), was one of the most fulfilling responsibilities Carol enjoyed, as she organized and executed these programs and “Rang the Bells” for countless hours and helped countless kids have Christmas when they otherwise wouldn't have. She was determined to "Make a difference" and completed FEMA Disaster Training and traveled to Louisiana to assist, shortly after Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
Carol loved the beach and enjoyed vacationing there with her children as much as possible. Back in those days, she could also be found at baseball games, football games, ballet recitals, band concerts, piano recitals, BMX and motocross competitions. On any given weekend, she would pack her station wagon full of excited young fellows and head to those moto events.
There was no doubt Carol had a heart full of love for her grandsons. She was always thrilled to spend time with them, looking forward to the time together summer breaks provided. Watching them play ball, swim, and more recently, learning to drive, were just a few of the most cherished moments "G-ma" had with her "boys".
Throughout her life, Carol especially enjoyed living on the Etowah River, where she often spent time with family and entertained neighborhood friends. Another source of joy was time she spent at the cabin, “J Willy’s Place”, on Loves Mountain near Ellijay, where she also spent time with friends and loved ones; especially her pups,Chelsea, Andy, Patches and Bea. It was there in the mountains that she enjoyed nature, and other pastimes such as collecting bulbs for transplanting and searching far and wide for exciting, unique primitive antiques.
Along with her parents, Carol was preceded in be death by her son, Lee Caswell and father of her children, Robert (Bert) Caswell.
She is survived by her daughter, Carrie Caswell, Amy (Rick) Camp; sister, Mary Ruth (Bill) Phillips; grandchildren, Leland Camp and Will Camp; her most precious companion, her cat, Ms. Tori Lynn Caswell and many loving extended family members and friends to cherish her memory.
Family will receive friends on Sunday, January 15, 2023 from one o'clock in the afternoon until three o'clock in the afternoon, in the Sam Jones Methodist Fellowship Hall located under the sanctuary.
