Billy Martin Cox, age 81, of Cartersville, GA, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on April 14, 2025. Born on February 27, 1944, in Polk county, GA, he was the son of the late Ed Cox Jr. and Anne Mae Smith. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Eddie Don Cox.
Billy is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Delores Ann Cagle Cox; his children, Timothy Wayne Cox (Kelly), Angie Cox McDaniel (Tim Yorgan), and Melessa Cox Cornett (Jason); grandchildren, Tyler McDaniel (Adrieanna), Joshua McDaniel (Kaylie), Katie Kilvington (Kyle), Nena Evans (Bryce), Madison Prince (Hayden), Garrett Cornett (Genesis), Brittney Cox, Madelyn McDaniel, and Andrew Cornett; great-grandchildren, Wyatt Billy Lee McDaniel, Everleigh Green, Cassidy Annie Mae McDaniel, J.C. McDaniel, Alayna Prince, Audrey McDaniel, Iris Evans, and Lorretta Prince.
He is also survived by special cousins Judy Prichett (J.R.) and Donald Cox (Linda), as well as many extended family members and dear friends.
A lifelong crop, cattle, and pig farmer, Billy was a hardworking man of faith and integrity. He was a devoted Christian and a member of Raccoon Creek Baptist Church for 48 years, where he served faithfully as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher. Above all, he was a beloved husband, father, granddaddy, and great-granddaddy.
Billy found great joy in spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, taking Sunday afternoon drives, tending to his vegetable garden, and reading the Bible
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2025, beginning at 4:00 PM, with a Celebration of Billy’s Life to follow at 6:00 PM at Owen Funeral Home. Bro. Steven Cochran and Pastor James Black will officiate the service.
Pallbearers will be Tyler McDaniel, Joshua McDaniel, Hayden Prince, Garrett Cornett, Andrew Cornett, Bryce Evans, and Wyatt McDaniel. Honorary pallbearers include Deacons and former Deacons of Raccoon Creek Baptist Church: Philip Morris, Gary Sanford, Wayne Thompson, Terry Elrod, Bill Posey, David Smith, Davis Nelson, Ron Gwin, and Steve Martin.
Billy will be remembered for his deep faith, strong work ethic, love for his family, and quiet strength that touched all who knew him.
