Mrs. Barbara K Bennett, age 78, of Cartersville, GA., passed away, Tuesday, July 26, 2016. Mrs. Bennett was born on January 22, 1938 in Cartersville, GA., a daughter of the late Grady Walton Knight and Mary Louella Branton Knight.
Mrs. Bennett graduated from Cartersville High School in 1956. Immediately following her high school career she interviewed with Lockheed Martin in Marietta where she would spend thirty-seven dedicated years as a secretary. If you knew Mrs. Bennett you knew her for her beautiful quilts. She was an expert quilter, being published in the McCall’s Quilting, Winter 1998/1999. Her most beautiful quilts were made with love for her children and grandchildren and given for Christmas gifts. Being an avid quilter, she also enjoyed sewing; making most of her daughter’s dresses and even a wedding dress. In her spare time she could be found in Alligator Pointe, Florida. Mrs. Bennett enjoyed spending time with her family most. She especially loved caring for her special brother, Kenny Knight, along with her other brothers and sisters. Mrs. Bennett never desired to be front and center, but there was no doubt she was the backbone of her family. She will certainly be missed by all who knew her.
The family of Mrs. Bennett would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Mehta and the staff at Northwest Georgia Oncology for their care during her illness.
Along with her parents Mrs. Bennett is preceded in death by one sister, Rachel Knight.
Mrs. Bennett is survived by her childhood sweetheart and wonderful husband of almost sixty years, James H. Bennett; three children, Sherry B. (Jeff) Dittmer, Gwen B. (Ed) Ayers and Sandy W. (Alicia) Bennett, all of Cartersville, GA.; two sisters, Linda (Randall) McIntyre, of Cartersville, and Jane (Michael) Waits, of Stilesboro, GA.; four brothers, Roger (Diane) Knight, Johnny (Debbie) Knight, Ted (Linda Ann) Knight, and Kenny Knight, all of Cartersville, GA.; grandchildren, Adam Dittmer, Brittany D. Fidler, Levi Ayers, Hailey Bennett, Caleb Bennett, and Jack Parker; great-grandchildren, Kate Fidler and Bentley Bennett; and a very special friend, Dale Moss; several nieces and nephews also survive.
