Sarah Gail Jevne, 85, of Carson City, NV; Fox Crossing, WI and former resident of Middleton, WI passed away July 10th, 2024 at Renown Medical Center in Reno, NV, after a lengthy battle with cancer and injuries sustained from an automobile accident.
Sarah was born March 6th, 1939 to Gaius & Lillian Wilson Nichols, the first of three children. She grew up in rural Oconto, WI where she attended the Greenwood one-room grade school and graduated as the valedictorian of the Oconto High School class of 1957. She earned her RN from Bellin School of Nursing and later received her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. [Sarah and her mother were the first mother-daughter duo to both attend Bellin though thirty years apart.] She then taught through Bellin Memorial Hospital for several years.
Sarah married Robert Smith in 1962, but sadly he passed from cancer only seven years later. Bob was a house-builder and had left several properties needing attention, which is how Sarah met her second husband.
She married Leonard Jevne in 1971 and raised their sons, Nicholas and Russell, in Middleton, WI until 1987, when they moved the family to Carson City, Nevada.
Sarah enjoyed traveling and would do so whenever possible. She had lived her dream of stepping on every continent but Antarctica, which she still had hoped to accomplish. A few special trips were made with long-time friends Ellie Week and Betty Razor. Other memorable trips were an extended trip with brother, Lyle, Nick and Paul to London for Russ’ wedding; and another with Nicholas to South America where she watched as he swam in the Amazon with piranha.
During the past several decades, Sarah devoted much time to those in need. As a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Carson City, she volunteered with the Stitchers of St Paul’s, creating thousands of items over the years. She loved her faith and singing in the choir was pure joy for her.
Sarah was preceded in death by her first husband of seven years, Robert ‘Bob’ Smith; her second husband of thirty-eight years, Leonard Jevne; and her parents, Lillian and Gaius Nichols.
Among survivors are her devoted children, Nicholas (Paul) Jevne of Fox Crossing, WI; Russell Jevne of London, UK; brother, Lyle (Diane) Nichols of Oconto, WI; sister Jen Nichols of Lakewood, WI; step-daughter Rosalind Hack of Mequon, WI; step-son Eric Moore of Madison, WI; grand-children Hayley and Emily Robertson of London, UK; niece Lara (Adam) Nichols-Timm and nephew Brett Nichols both of Oconto, WI; as well as many other relatives and special friends from both areas she lived.
The family would like to thank the staff at Renown Medical Center for their amazing efforts to extend Sarah’s life. They would also like to say thank you to special family friend Maria O’Neill for the love and assistance you’ve shown Sarah and our family over the years; and further, the parish at St Paul’s for helping to give Sarah purpose in her retirement. To all those who have shared in her life, expressed concern and offered assistance over the years to Sarah, she loved you all.
