Jacob J. Dyson, born on June 17,1936 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, passed away on November 9, 2024, in Carson City, NV. He is survived by his wife Sandra, his two children Mike Dyson and Vickie Knitter (David); his granddaughters Kelsey Knitter, Courtney Knitter, Annie Knitter, Allie LaRue (John); his sister JoAnne Capra; and wonderful nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Jake graduated from Sacramento High in 1954 and attended Sacramento City College where he ran track and played basketball. He didn’t talk about it, but his children were always impressed that he was the second fastest quarter miler in California in 1954. He served in the US Army 82nd Airborne 504th, and reminisced frequently about his time at Lee Barracks, Mainz-Gonsenheim. Jake worked for the Sacramento Police Department before his career with the Carmichael Fire Department/ American River Fire Department where he made lifelong friendships. Jake ended his firefighting days as a chief.
Jake married Sandra in Carson City in 1960-and they had an extraordinary life together. He loved the mountains, the high desert, the open sky, hiking, dogs, lemonade from Angora Lake, golf, ice-cream, and most of all his family and friends. He did not like to sit still—so “Let’s go!”
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Carson City Pets of the Homeless 710 W. Washington Street, Carson City NV 8970. (775) 841-7463.
