Gloria Alice Corvin

Gloria, known to many as Alice was born April 6, 1939, to John A. and Gloria Martinez, in Houston, Texas. She was one of 6 girls.

In her younger years, one of her desires was to be a dancer, watching the Fred Astaire’s and Ginger Roger’s from the 30’s,40’s and 50’s. Gloria had a love for broadways and musicals, and the oldies! You could always find her watching Turner classic movies, The Golden Girls, Mamas family, and PBS Mysteries, as they brought her much delight.

After graduating, she joined the Air Force in 1957, where she met Joe H. Powers, father to their 4 children, Terry, Debbie, John, and Robert. She was honorably discharged and followed Joe’s military career which took the family to numerous duty stations overseas and stateside. Glorias experience in accounting, bookkeeping and excellent secretarial skills led to many years of employment throughout her travels. Gloria worked for the Harris County tax office in 1982 and that would be her final employer before her retirement.

In December 1972, she married Tom Corvin where his Air Force career also took them to different states until his retirement in 1981 where they resided in Alabama and later back to Houston, Texas.

After returning to Houston, Gloria began working for Harris County in the tax department. She retired in 2005, after nearly 20 years of service.

Following Tom’s passing in 2016, Gloria relocated to Carson City, Nevada, with her daughter Debbie and son in law Robby. She cherished spending time with her great grandchildren and was a huge part of their lives.

Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, Gloria and John; 2 baby sisters, Alice and Irene; sister, Mary Lou; daughter, Terry; son, John, granddaughter, Jeanette; and her husband Tom Corvin.

She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Fulghum (Robby), son, Robert Powers(Jeanie), Stepdaughter, Jodie Real (Steve), Daughter in law, Susan Powers; Sisters, Carol Casas (Jesse), Jeanette Azzarello (Jim), Brother in law, Tom Perry; Grandchildren: Nicole, Raquel, Michael, Bobby, John J, Tyler, Andrew, Joe, Matthew, Terra, Stephanie, Patrick; 18 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews

Services will be held on November 13, 2024 at 10:00am at the Historical Hollywood Cemetery located at 3506 N Main St., Houston, Texas 77009
