William Edgar Layne Jr.

This Virginia gentleman was born January 27, 1932 to William Edgar Layne, Sr. and Emerelda Smith Layne. He attended Atlantic Christian College and graduated from the University of Richmond class of 1958 with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.

Buddy was employed by Universal Match Corporation in 1959 until early retirement in 1987. He lived in Richmond, Houston, Kansas City, and Dallas as Southwest Regional Sales Manager. Since 1987 he was self-employed as a print broker with Schneider Business Forms and later with Scott Merriman Company. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church for many years and helped with Meals on Wheels.

Buddy loved basketball and played while in high school, college and in the Navy for the Jacksonville 5th Naval District Champions.

Buddy also loved golf and was an active member at Brookhaven Country Club, served on many committees and was President of the MGA and member of the SGA. He was a great fan of the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Cowboys but his favorite team was his University of Richmond “Spiders”.

Buddy is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jean. His five children, Cheryl and Mark Adams of Marshall; Tom and Rosanna Layne of Bay City; Katherine Baronet of Dallas; Susan and Jim Margolin of Mission Hills, KS; Bruce and Karen Layne of Hutchinson, KS. Six Grandchildren, Aubrie, April, Tommy, Parker, Emily and Edward. Six Great Grandchildren, Sophie, Elizabeth, Rowan, Harper, Skyler, and Gavin. He is also survived by his sister Jean of Richmond, Virginia. This loving husband, beloved father, faithful friend will be missed by so many. To know Buddy was to love him. His love will live on in our hearts forever.

A Memorial service will be held at Christ United Methodist Church, located at 2807 Valwood Parkway, Farmers Branch, TX 75234, on Friday, November 1, 2019 at 11:00 am. An inurnment will take place at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery at a late date.
