Ray was born on June 23, 1947 in Dallas, TX to Mary Lee and William. He graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a degree in business. He married Fonda Leigh Harrison, a first grade school teacher, in 1971. Ray then began working for Fireman’s Fund as a underwriter before running his own insurance agency, The Watson Agency, for many years. In 1975, the couple welcomed their child Fonda Alese into their home and in 1992 welcomed their grandson Quinn. His family remembers him as a kind and generous father and husband who loved unconditionally, whether you were his wife and daughter or a stray animal found on the street.
For the past 20 years, Ray has been a senior vice president for Mullis Newby Hurst LP, which was a great source of pride for him. He was also quite the accomplished grill-meister, but most of his skills were as a jokester. He was witty and loved travel, good food, and great company. While managing his business, Ray made sure he and his family traveled and enjoyed their Texas lives. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Garland and made a point of reading the bible every day.
Ray is survived by his wife, Fonda; daughter, Alese; grandson, Quinn; granddaughter, Lily; son-in-law, Eric; brother, Robert; brother, John; and his sister, Janet. He is preceded in death by his mother, father, and his brother Bill.
