The Cong Vo (or “Ong Ngoai”) was born on November 2, 1921 in Long Chau, Viet Nam to Ly Huu Vo and Dung Thi Do. Ong Ngoai was a retired Captain of the South Vietnamese Marine Corps, later working with Ngan Hang Viet Nam Thuong Tin (Banking of Viet Nam). As a young man, with his talent and intellect, he traveled the world – training at Fort Lee in Virginia as a professional locksmith for the United States government decoding safes and working as a translator in Cambodia. He later settled his family in Tam Binh, Viet Nam, farming rice and fresh produce. In 1991, Ong Ngoai moved to Carrollton, Texas with his beloved wife where he resided until his passing. Ong Ngoai will be remembered as a strong but soft-spoken, simple but sharp, quiet but loving family man. Ong Ngoai enjoyed being outdoors – gardening, landscaping; building, fixing, and re-purposing things; playing Chinese chess (or “Co Tuong”), playing Solitaire; riding his bicycle; reading the Vietnamese newspaper; and watching the Animal Planet. He was preceded in death by his father, Ly Huu Vo; mother, Dung Thi Do; sister, Nguyen Thi Vo; daughter, Yen-Ngoc Vo; son, Cong-Tu Vo; and son, Hoang-Tuan Vo. Ong Ngoai is survived by his wife of 71 years, Anri Mirmont Vo (Carrollton, TX); son, Cong-Ton Vo (Viet Nam); daughter, Yen-Anh Nguyen (Plano, TX); son, Cong-Man Vo (Viet Nam); daughter, Yen-Tuyet Nguyen (Viet Nam); daughter and caretaker, Yen-Thuy Huynh (Carrollton, TX); son-in-law and caretaker, Thanh Kim Huynh (Carrollton, TX); son, Cong-Minh Vo (Viet Nam); and daughter, Yen-Phuong Vo (Carrollton, TX); 26 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.
Ong Ngoai will be forever loved and forever missed by his family and close friends. “Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for a while, leave footprints on our heart, and we are never, ever the same.”
Visitation and rosary services will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2014 from 6-8pm and Friday, January 24, 2014 from 9am-8pm at Rhoton Funeral Home, 1511 South Interstate 35E, Carrollton, TX. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 8am at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 2121 N. Denton Dr., Carrollton, TX, to be followed by the burial service at Moore Memorial Gardens,1219 N. Davis Dr., Arlington, TX.
