Tammy is survived by her loving husband, Fred Lawson of Carrollton, Texas. She is lovingly remembered by her three children, Joanna, Michael and Jonathan, her daughter-in-law, Maddie; and her brothers, Lyle and Darin; and extended family.
Tammy was born on June 6th, 1961 in Fayetteville, Arkansas to Nancy and Keith Garton. She attended The University of Arkansas and Bauder Fashion College in Arlington, Texas. Tammy met Fred Lawson in Arlington, Texas, and they were married in 1981. They had three children, Joanna, Michael and Jonathan.
Tammy and Fred moved to Carrollton, Texas in 1985. Tammy subsequently accepted a position at Prince of Peace Christian School in 1999, and served in many roles, including preschool teacher, lower school technology teacher, and most recently, upper school office manager.
Faith in Jesus was the most important thing to Tammy. In her own words, “Jesus makes me happy. He is the foundation on which I have built my life. My home is in Him. I believe anything is possible if it is His will, and I have seen Him do amazing things.” She was spirit-filled and prayed unceasingly for all her friends, family, and students.
She loved her family and friends fiercely and intentionally. She was thoughtful and caring. She was also generous, investing her time and money in the people and organizations that she valued. She was an excellent wife, friend, mother, and teacher.
She is remembered as a funny and witty person that everyone was drawn to. Tammy was “a hoot,” and she brought joy to those around her. She enjoyed making every gathering fun and memorable. She had the gift of hospitality and was an excellent homemaker.
Tammy loved Christmas. As a child, she believed that everything was magical and anything could happen at Christmastime. She painstakingly recreated that for her family and friends each year.
Tammy also loved music. She loved to belt out her favorite songs in the car. Some of her most cherished memories were singing with her family as her brother, nephew and son accompanied on the guitar. Some of her favorite artists included Carole King, Bonnie Raitt, Adele, Johnnyswim, and Lauren Daigle. Her favorite song was The Goodness of God. She loved the verse, “all my life you have been faithful, all my life you have been so, so good. With every breath that I am able, I will sing of the goodness of God.”
She enjoyed playing games with her family, antiquing, gardening, and volunteering at her church, Bent Tree Bible Fellowship. She was a long-time volunteer with the student ministry, led a Tuesday Night Bible Study group, and was an eager volunteer at many church activities.
Tammy spent her last night on earth volunteering at a Christmas festival for special needs families. She leaves a legacy of service, faith and family.
