Sammye Jean Caldwell was born December 12, 1934, the first of three children to Lois (Samuelson) and Jess Caldwell in Vernon, TX. A Denton High School graduate, she continued her studies at the University of North Texas and obtained a Bachelors in Business Education and a Masters degree in Mathematics in 1963. She used those degrees to educate thousands of students in Whitewright and Lancaster over the next 30 years. Following her retirement in 1992, she moved to Farmers Branch and worked as a substitute teacher in the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD until 2013. When not in the classroom, she was dedicated to furthering education through the South Dallas County Retired School Personnel. Countless hours were spent in service through the retired teachers association and the Bay View Century Club with a variety of projects. She explored the world with travels across the United States and Europe, including Hawaii, Alaska, Washington D.C., Norway, Great Britain, and Italy. She spread her joy of the world through her photos and trinkets from her travels. She loved to make scrapbooks for her family, church, and friends to ensure the memories could continue. Sammye is predeceased by her parents, brother-in-law Joe Cudd, and her faithful companions Buffy, Hari, Little Bit, and Koko. She is survived by her sister Gussie Cudd of Carrollton; brother and sister-in-law David and Paula Caldwell of Carrollton; nephew Matt Caldwell of Carrollton; niece Darcy Caldwell of Hackberry; and numerous friends picked up through all of her adventures, including but not limited to, the Presbyterian Student Association and her fellow Denton High School alumni. The family would appreciate the continuance of her community service, in lieu of flowers, with donations of time or money made to the Stew Pot, the local SPCA, or the charity of your choice. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, July 8 at 10 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church Dallas at 1835 Young St, Dallas TX 75201
