Beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and friend Russell Curtis Shaffer (Russ), age 72, of Carrollton, Texas went home to be with Jesus March 21, 2023 after a valiant battle with cancer.
Born December 8, 1950, to Cecil Curtis and Mary Louise (Hopkins) Shaffer in Paducah, Kentucky. Russ was a graduate of Lone Oak High School. He attended Paducah Junior College and Murray State University. He graduated from Texas Tech University with a BS in Economics.
While working in the engineering department for Texaco, Russ discovered great passion and talent for cabinet making. His carpentry business grew into a partnership with Rick McCance which became R & R Custom Cabinets. Russell went on to partner in NE Mills Works. Russell invested in the lives of men who worked for and with him, mentoring many who needed a father figure in their lives.
Russ met and married the love of his life, Linda (McCance). For 52 years, they loved and served Jesus, each other, family, friends, the community of faith and the community at large. They were members of Cornerstone Christian Church. They served in various capacities over the years, including children and youth ministries. They volunteered together after launching Master Craft, working with People Helping People, repairing homes for people who could not afford to keep their houses up to code.
Russ was as gifted at relationship building as he was cabinets. He was warm, welcoming, authentic, kind, generous, and loving. He had a quick, dry wit and an infectious smile.
Russ’s Kentucky roots stayed with him, and he took great joy in being outdoors, boating, fishing, and water skiing. Whether at the lake or the ocean, he most enjoyed these activities when shared with family and friends. It was a highlight of the year when their Kentucky family could join Russ and Linda at their lake house for a week fondly referred to as “Camp Shaffer”. Russ loved sports, especially University of Kentucky basketball which he followed every year.
Russ was preceded in death by both of his parents.
He is survived by his loving wife, Linda, his daughters LaShelle (Steve) Jennings and Stephanie (Guy) Bilton; sister, Sharon (John) Adler; brother, Gary (Dorothy) Shaffer, and his sister, Cathy (Mike) Reams, 4 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Also his great nieces and nephews who gave him much joy.
A Celebration of Life for Russ will be held Saturday, April 15 at 11 a.m. CDST at The Branch Church, Vista Ridge Campus - 3601 Huffines Blvd., Carrollton, Texas 75010
Live streaming will be available for those who are unable to attend in-person.
