Raymond served in the United States Air Force as a Douglas C133 Cargo Master airplane mechanic. After his service in the military, he was a very talented auto mechanic who worked his way up into management where he earned awards from General Motors. After putting away the tools professionally, he went on to be a truck driver, and eventually retired from that profession. He was always happy to pull his tools out to help a brother or sister with car repairs. He had a huge heart and an infectious laugh.
Raymond is proceeded in death by his parents Ruthie Mae Bird, Raymond Ray Smith and Vivian Earlene Smith. His former wife, Virginia (Ginger) Kathlyn Smith, his sister Dorothy Ann Beasley, brother Billy Clinton Bird, brother Earl Ray Smith, and granddaughter Dana Lee Oakes.
Raymond is survived by his wife Jacquelyn Smith, daughters Karen Wells of Azle and Sharon Long and her husband Raleigh of Azle, son Roger Smith and his wife Stephani of Burnet; Grandchildren, Christine Smith, Rusty Roberson, Lisa Oakes, JK Oakes, Rachel Long, Raleigh Long and Kalee Roberson; Fourteen great-grandchildren and multiple nieces and nephews.
