Michael Eldwyn Barnett passed away on December 3, 2015. He was born in Ft. Worth on February 17, 1947 to Wynell Wheat Barnett and James Eldwyn Barnett. He is survived by wife, Marcia Lee Smith Barnett, and two cherished daughters, Valerie Ann and Melanie Lynn, as well his brother Robert Dale and his wife Beverly: their children; Karie and husband Greg and their two girls, Natalie & Rachel: and son Brent and wife Blanca with their two son's, Nicholas and Lucas, His Uncle Homer Johnson and Family, Aunt Rosemary Wheat , and many Wheat family cousins: Aunt Mary Nell Rubenkoenig and many ,many Rubenkoenig Cousins, from first to kissing.
Mike graduated Castleberry High School was attending UTA when he met his wife on a blind date. They were married 14 months later and have had 46 great years.
When he graduated from UTA, he got a job at Teledyne Geotech working as a computer programmer automating gas production. He worked there for a few years, then was enticed to join Gearheart Owen, a company that was on the cutting edge of the oil logging industry. His job, was to write software to determine what petrophysical elements such as gas or oil, were available when drilling was taking place. One thing that was innovative and interesting about that job at the time, was the fact that the big mainframe computers were put in customized trucks, to be utilized at the job sites, rather than having to return the data to a central computer location for it to be processed and analyzed, while the crew was waiting, at considerable cost to Oil and Drilling companies. After a few years he became a little disillusioned with the direction the company was taking and felt that he would like to control and follow, his own destiny and vision of the future. So, in 1981 Mike and a business associate, Mike Head, formed Petroleum Computing doing similar work, but on smaller computers. In 1989 they sold Petroleum Computing to Landmark Graphics. After working for Landmark a little over a year, he and former colleague, Doug Schmidt, formed Petcom and successfully worked and expanded the company utilizing PC's, until thoughts of retirement called to Mike. They sold Petcom to Fugro-Jason, a Dutch Company in 2004. Fugro made Doug and Mike a attractive offer to work for them for 5 years, which ultimately turned into 6. They gave Mike a lovely Retirement Part at the Country Club in 2010. I have heard from several of his business associates, friend, and both of his partners who said, " That he was one of the smartest people they had ever worked with". He not only was very successful in his business endeavors, but he made many friends, whether the were associates, bosses, or employees, because of their respect for his intelligence, work ethics, integrity, and considerate and professional attitude, as he journeyed thru his business and personal life.
His family is so grateful for his good humor, support, trust, loyalty, love and reliable presence with us all these years. We could not have asked for a better father, friend , husband or American. We are also grateful for the wonderful home that he provided us, as well as the many fun trips we have had over the years. They are memories that will always stay with us along with knowledge that even though he will not be with us in his physical body, he will still be loving and looking out for us.
