Lawrence Ray (Larry) Pemberton passed away peacefully on May 29, 2019 and is now with his Lord Jesus Christ. He was born on November 14, 1942 in Hallsville, Missouri to Howard and Lucille Pemberton. He was preceded in death by both of his parents and his brother in law, David Gysbers. Larry was a faithful and loving husband, and is survived by his devoted wife of 36 years, Kay Carol Pemberton of Greenville, Texas. Larry is survived by his two daughters Kristina Pemberton Stiller and husband Mike Stiller of Akron, Ohio and Carrie Cox Shahan and husband Brian Shahan of Frisco, Texas. He is survived by 5 grandchildren: Ben, Chris and Lucy Stiller of Akron, Ohio and Travis and Jake Shahan of Frisco, Texas. Larry was the oldest of six children. He is also survived by his siblings: Bill and Pat Pemberton of Osage Beach, Missouri; Gary and Jeanie Pemberton of Spring, Texas; Brenda and Gene Amend of Farmers Branch, Texas; Cheryl Gysbers of Columbia, Missouri and Carol and Bill Shafer of Olathe, Kansas. He had a large and loving extended family, including Aunt Betty and husband Frank Holman of Red Oak, Texas, as well as eight nephews, two nieces, four great nephews and six great nieces.
Larry grew up in Columbia, Missouri. He proudly graduated from the University of Missouri in 1964 and was a lifetime member of Delta Sigma Phi. Larry led many sales teams in the oil and gas industry throughout the years. He was known for his loyalty, kindness and sense of humor with those under his leadership, and occasionally could be found walking through the office with a bag of M&Ms. He loved his Missouri Tigers and attended many football games, including numerous Bowl games as a season ticket holder. He was an avid golfer during his travels, and had a particular fondness for the courses at Bear Creek in Missouri and Pebble Beach in California. He loved attending movies, traveling to the West Coast with his beloved wife, playing pool at Booches Billiard Hall in Colombia, Missouri, competing in the yearly family reunion ping-pong tournament at Lake of the Ozarks, and holding the many newborn babies within his church family.
He will be remembered with a Celebration of Life Service on June 29, 2019 at 2 PM at his church of more than 25 years, The Village Church - Dallas Northway at 3877 Walnut Hill Lane, Dallas, Texas 75229. A reception will immediately follow from 3 PM to 4:30 PM in Hardin Hall at The Village Church - Dallas Northway. Casual attire is preferred and Mizzou apparel is certainly appropriate.
