John Paul Hefko , born Aug. 24, 1929 in New York City, N.Y., passed away March 13, 2016 in his sleep at the age of 86. Preceded in death by his parents, Mary and John Hefko. Survived by his wife of 58 years, Patricia Ann Hefko, daughter Catherine Mary Hefko and granddaughter Mackenzie Marie Hefko, his sister and brother-in-law Mary Ann and Frank Deangelo, and many nieces and nephews.
John studied at Cooper Union,NY, under The Arts Program. He joined Socony Mobil Oil in New York as an exploration geophysical and geological cartographer, working there for 28 years including his transfer to Dallas, Texas, in 1976. After he left Mobil he worked as a consultant for several other oil exploration companies, including Sun, Standard Oil of Ohio, British Petroleum and Arco oil Corporation.
John was very proud of his service in the U.S. Marine Corp, having been drafted in 1952. He enjoyed the arts and was an excellent cook. He enjoyed creating his own recipes and using some traditional Hungarian family recipes.
The move to Carrollton was in 1979. He has been a member of St. Catherine’s since its inception. Visitation will be March 16 from 5 to 7 pm at Rhoton Funeral Home, the rosary will be recited with a Deacon from St. Catherine’s. The Mass will be March 17 at 11am at St.Catherine’s. His burial will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, New York on Saturday, March 19, 2016.
