After trying for several years, Walter L. Johnson, Sr. and Maggie Marzetti gave birth to their first child Gloria on August 4, 1946, in Columbus OH. Four years later, they gave birth to Gloria’s brother Walter L. Johnson, Jr. (deceased).
Gloria married Paul T. Hammond, Sr. and gave birth to five beautiful children. Paul T. Hammond, Jr. (deceased in 2015), Michelle Hammond, Niecie Nelson, Reginal Hammond and Lorrie Hammond. Gloria is survived by her four children, and 29 grandchildren and great grandchildren and her dearest friends: Sandra Harden, Linda Johnson, and Gloria Thomas.
Gloria supported the U.S.A. Military for more than 30 years by preparing exquisite meals for the troops in the US ARMY. She enjoyed this and received numerous accolades for her professionalism and her dedication to consistently providing high quality service and products. After Gloria retired, she continued to cook for her family; however, she just never learned how to cook for six people or less (lots of leftovers that we all enjoyed).
Although cooking was Gloria’s passion, she enjoyed spending time with her family, fishing, putting together jigsaw puzzles, playing various games on her iPad, and traveling, especially trips to Las Vegas where she indulged in spa treatments, slot machines and a variety of restaurants. Gloria never liked heights, but during one of her international trips, she gathered enough courage to take a trip up to Table Mountain in South Africa.
Gloria’s effervescent spirit of joy and laughter will forever remain in our hearts.
