Geneva O. Sexton, 77, a long time resident of Carrollton, passed from this life Thursday, February 17th in Irving, Texas following an extended illness. The daughter of Wesley and Sally Ethel Rains Roberts, she was born in Stringtown, Oklahoma September 17, 1933.
Geneva grew up in Stringtown where she graduated from highschool and then attended college in Kilgore, Texas. She married Thomas Smith Sexton , Jr. in Durant, Oklahoma , January 8, 1960 and he preceded her in death February 3, 1976.
Geneva retired in 1995 as secretary of the Carrollton First Baptist Church where she had worked since the mid 1970’s. She loved the Lord and her service to the children's department working with 2 year olds. Following her retirement, she continued to work in the church as a volunteer in many areas. Her favorite times were meeting with her sisters and family that shared her love of quilting in their monthly "sister quilt" meetings. Additionally, she enjoyed playing games with her children and grandchildren.
Surviving are her daughters, Lesa June Smith and her husband Brent of Carrollton, and Lynda Geane Ryden and her husband Jason of Irving, Texas; three grandchildren Tara Pardue and her husband Zeb of Dallas, Dayton Ryden, a student at Midwestern State University, in Wichita Falls and Curren Ryden, a student at Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas; four sisters, Helen Galyean of Madill, Oklahoma, Fannie Westbrook of McAlester, Oklahoma, Patricia Roberts of Roseburg, Oregon and Geane Kellogg and her husband Billy Guy of Daisy, Oklahoma, and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Sunday evening from 5 – 8 p.m. at Rhoton Funeral Home with Funeral Services at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church in Carrollton. The Rev. Dr. Brent Taylor will officiate and burial will follow at Hilltop Memorial Park in Carrollton. Pallbearers will be Dayton Ryden, Curren Ryden, Zeb Pardue, Nick Galyean, Clint Hutson and Joe Kellogg.
