Edith Betts Meredith, born January 25, 1929 in Springfield Gardens, Queens, New York and entered in the arms of our Lord on Thursday, August 19, 2021. She left a true legacy here on earth in a lifespan of 92 years and 8 months.
She married Francis A. McLoughlin in 1948 and raised five children to love and honor God and all His creation. After a change in life, she married Rufus R. Meredith in 1973, with whom she shared her life until his death in 2008. She was a dedicated member of the Valwood Park Baptist Church until her passing. She was a devoted Prayer warrior, daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She loved to study God’s word and to share Jesus Christ wherever she went – convinced that her faith in God and loving His people is her legacy and privilege.
She is preceded in death by her son, Francis A. McLoughlin Jr., her husband, Rufus, two siblings: Walter Betts Jr. and Joan Schaffer, two step-children: Elaine Chauvin, and Vernon Taylor.
She is survived by two of her siblings, Lester Betts of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Carolyn Beninson of Warrenton, Virginia; her four remaining children: Patricia and her husband, Dale Ehmer, MD of Allen, Texas; Michael McLoughlin and his wife, Julie of Garland, Texas; Cheryl Bennett and her husband, Robbie of Gun Barrel City, Texas; and Walter McLoughlin and his wife Debra of Richmond, Texas; and her step-children, Sharon Taylor of West Memphis, Arkansas, Terry Morales and her husband, Jesse of Bella Vista, Arkansas, Peggy Cochran and her husband Gary of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Karen Taylor and Butch Chauvin, both of Cedar Hill, Texas. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren all of whom will miss her deeply. Funeral services will be held at Rhoton Funeral home at 1511 IH35E on Wednesday, August 25 officiated by Rev. Jerry Hays with a visitation at 10:00, service at 11:00 and graveside services afterward.
