In the early morning hours of July 14, 2016, Donna Lois McDougal passed away peacefully in her sleep. Donna had been a resident of Villagio of Carrollton Assisted Living and Memory care for 1 ½ years. Donna was 83 years old.
Donna Lois McDougal was born on March 10, 1933 on her grandfather’s farm near Bagley, Iowa. She was the fourth and youngest child of Cleo and Vera Foster. She is preceded in death by her brother, Dean Foster. Donna is survived by her daughter, Linda Sutor, son-in-law Steven Sutor and grandsons Adam, William, and Jared; her two sisters Arlene Morris, Anita Egelhoff, brother-in-law Warren Egelhoff and numerous loving nephews, nieces, and their children.
Donna grew up in Herndon, Iowa and was a graduate of Jamaica High School in Jamaica, Iowa. After high school she attended business classes. Her first job was at Bankers Life Insurance Company in Des Moines, Iowa. On April 15, 1956, Donna married Ernest McDougal. Donna continued working after her marriage as both a bank teller and later moved to a secretarial position. In 1963, Donna and Ernie became the proud parents of their only child Linda. After nine years of marriage Donna and Ernie were divorced. Shortly after the dissolution of her marriage, Donna and her daughter moved to Denver, Colorado to be near her two sisters.
Over the years, Donna worked for several different companies as a secretary. In 1971, she worked for Industry Media, a plastics design magazine publishing company. She started as a secretary and later advanced to the accounting department as the business grew. When the business was sold in the early 1980’s Donna went back to secretarial work. Her last job before her retirement was working as an executive secretary for a RNL, a prestigious architecture firm in Denver, Colorado. After her retirement, Donna enjoyed doing volunteer work at her church, Arvada United Methodist, helping children learn to read at the local elementary school, spending time with her sisters and visiting with her daughter, son-in-law, and grandsons.
In 2006, Donna was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease and in early 2008 moved to Texas to be closer to her daughter and her family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org. Donna’s memorial service will be on Saturday, August 13, at 10:30am at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Carrollton, Texas.
