He was born on January 17, 1943 in Niagara Falls, NY to the late Charles and Stella Rotko.
Dave graduated high school from LaSalle Sr. High School in 1960. He then relocated to Texas where he got his undergraduate degree at Tyler Jr. College, and later got a Masters in Education from the University of North Texas.
Dave had a fulfilling 40-year teaching career, starting at Franklin Jr. High School and Hillcrest High School in Dallas, TX, then moved with his family to Carrollton, TX where he taught at Newman Smith High School. There he coached the Boys’ Varsity Soccer Team, making the State Semi-Finals twice during his tenure as Head Coach. He had a true passion for teaching and coaching, building life-long relationships with many of his former students and faculty. Dave enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and he loved fishing, tinkering with classic trucks and cars, and listening to “oldies but goodies” music in his garage.
He was the loving husband of the late Verna (Wilkins) Rotko. He is survived by his three sons, David C. Rotko, Jr. of Plano, TX, Vernon Z. Rotko of Dallas, TX, Josh T. Rotko and Daughter-in-law, Shelley W. Rotko of Plano, TX; brother, John F. Rotko; sister, Vanya M. Lewis; four grandchildren, Hayden, Averi, Hudson and Ashli Rotko; and his dog, Peanut.
