David Elwood Oldfield

Dave Oldfield, 88, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2023, at his home in Carrollton, surrounded by his loving family. Dave was born on November 28, 1934, in Moundsville, West Virginia to Benjamin and Nettie Oldfield. Dave lived a long life working hard and serving others with his beloved wife, Ilene, of 64 years by his side.

Dave was a dedicated father who raised four wonderful children, Debbie Hutson, Cindy (Jerry) Sherwood, Eddie (Miriam) McDaniel, and Donnie (René) Oldfield. He was the proud grandfather of eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Family was the cornerstone of Dave's life, and he reveled in every moment spent with his loved ones.

As a United States Army Veteran, Dave served his country with honor and courage. His commitment to service extended far beyond the military. He became a pillar in his community and served as a devoted city council member and lifetime member of the Metrocrest Chamber of Commerce, who recognized him as Citizen of the Year in 1998, as Red Coat of the Year in 2006, and by naming the “Dave Oldfield Ambassador of the Year” award after him. He played an instrumental role in numerous initiatives, including bringing DART rail to Carrollton and founding Santa Fe Days. In addition to owning Oldfield & Associates, he also worked tirelessly to foster growth and development in downtown Carrollton as part of the Carrollton Neighborhood Advisory Commission and Old Downtown Association. The city of Carrollton expressed its gratitude by presenting Dave with a Certificate of Recognition in 2022, highlighting his unwavering support of the Carrollton Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association. His tireless efforts and selfless dedication to the community he held dear was unparalleled. Dave leaves behind a legacy of love that will forever inspire and uplift those who had the privilege of knowing him.

A memorial service will be held at Dave’s long-time church to honor his life at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 18th at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church located at 12411 Templeton Trl, Farmers Branch, TX 75234. There will be a celebration of life following the service from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Oldfield Building in Old Downtown Carrollton located at 1101 S Broadway St, Carrollton, TX 75006. All are welcome to join in celebrating his remarkable journey.
