Barbara was born in Athens, TX on May 6, 1939, an only child to James and Irene Butler. Barbara was happily married to Harry “Skip” Hoxsey for 37 years until his passing in 2001. She was a loving mother, grandmother “Grammy”, and great-grandmother.
Barbara graduated from Forest Avenue High School in Dallas, TX in 1956 at the age of 17. Barbara excelled in academics and was awarded perfect attendance, never having missed one day of school throughout her education. Barbara was a competitive roller skater at the Cotton Bowl Skating Rink where she won many awards, including a National title. She was a member of LINZ award club, Tri-Hi-Y and the secretarial club.
Barbara met her husband, Skip while in a bowling league where she won a televised bowling competition. She was so competitive that she tore the skin on her hand multiple times and still won. They spent their lives raising their children and supporting them through every stage of life. Barbara was a board member of the Carrolton Baseball Association where she was an active parent volunteer. Barbara fiercely supported her children and grandchildren is all activities, rarely missing a sporting event.
Barbara had an entrepreneurial spirit having owned her own secretarial business for 25 years. She then joined Brian Humphries and Associates real estate firm specializing in challenging buying/selling transactions where she retired in 2009.
In Barbara’s 2nd Act, after the passing of her beloved husband Skip, she moved to Heritage Ranch retirement community in Fairview, TX where she became an active member of their HOA, met some amazing people that became her life-long friends, lead of the Single Mingles group, was a line dancing extraordinaire and honed her skills as a connoisseur of margaritas.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, James and Irene Butler, her husband Harry “Skip” Hoxsey and her angel baby that passed at birth.
Barbara is survived by her children, Sheryl Young and husband Bob of Hewitt, TX; Brent Hoxsey and wife Kelly of Frisco, TX; Jason Hoxsey and wife Traci of Van Alstyne, TX.
Grandchildren: Clint Young and wife Christine; Aaron Young and wife Celia; Ashlee Hoxsey, Austin Hoxsey and Amberlee Hoxsey
Great-grandchildren: Reece Young, Caden Young, Adam Young, Sophie Young and Luca Young
And countless beloved friends. She will be greatly missed!
