Alice Josephine Holeman McKaig, 96 years old, born March 29, 1927, passed away on August 1, 2023, in Farmers Branch, Texas. She was the daughter of Fred Otis and Sarah M Holeman, both of whom preceded her in death. Affectionately known as "Sue" by her family, the origin of this nickname remains a mystery, except that her dad used to call her that when she was little. She possessed a positive spirit, a zest for life, and a love for adventure, qualities that will be dearly missed by all.
Alice grew up in Crescent, Oklahoma, alongside her two younger brothers, Billy Ray Holeman and Jackie Donald "Pete" Holeman. She graduated from Crescent High School in 1945 and later married the love of her life, Carl Eugene McKaig, in September 1946. Their wedding took place in the family home, and they enjoyed 49 wonderful years together until his battle with cancer ended his life in January 1995. Alice was blessed with twin daughters, Mary Jane McKaig and Marsha Sue McKaig Otterson, as well as two grandsons: Timothy E. Davis and his fiancée Amy Lanford, and Michael T. Davis and his wife Becky Davis. Additionally, she adored her two great-grandchildren, Lana Davis and Bryson Bonner, whom she considered the world's greatest and saw no wrong in.
Beyond her immediate family, Alice had a loving niece named Carol Ann Enloe, who was like a third daughter to her. Alice had a passion for Ballroom Dancing and could effortlessly pack a bag within five minutes whenever someone asked her to join. She actively participated in the Pink Ladies group at the Farmers Branch Hospital, dedicating her time to helping others. For many years, she worked as a dedicated Bookkeeper for various companies.
Among her cherished memories were the eleven years she and her husband spent in Bremerton, Washington. They owned a boat and spent countless blissful moments on the water. They were active members of the Bremerton Yacht Club, attending every event and fostering great memories with fellow members. Rumor has it that they hosted some remarkable parties during this time.
In 2016, Alice found a spiritual home at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, where she developed strong bonds with the Church Family. However, the brightest light in her life was Jeremiah Thomas, and even during her final days, she greeted him with a smile and a warm hug. This cherished memory will forever hold a special place in our hearts."
Graveside Services will be held 9 AM at Hilltop Memorial Park, 1810 N. Perry Rd. Carrollton, Texas 75006.
