73, of Noblesville, Indiana passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2019. He was born January 31, 1946 in West Palm Beach, Florida to the late William G. and Edith J. (Adams) Mathes. He was a talented carpenter, an experienced traveler and most importantly, a loving and dedicated father and grandpa. Bill also served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
Bill was a longtime member of United Brotherhood of Carpenters #405. He loved woodworking and tinkering in the garage with his son, visiting National Parks, and walking along the beach. Bill was happiest though, making memories with his family. In retirement, he enjoyed traveling between Indiana, Arizona, The Panhandle of Florida and Northern California and narrating videos of his travels along the way.
He is survived by his devoted son, Scott (Natalie) Mathes; his grateful grandchildren, Norah, Mitchell and Brooks; many lifelong friends; his dear aunt, Jean Sanders; cousins; and sister, Sue (Jim) Gunn.
In honor of one of his favorite sayings, “It is what it is”, private services with cremation will be held for Bill. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name are suggested to the National Parks Foundation at: https://donate.nationalparks.org/page/10780/donate/1?locale=en-US
