Michael was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving for five years as a member of the drill team. He attended Marshall University and finished his degree at Purdue University.
While serving in the Air Force, Michael loved traveling to various parts of the world. He and his wife, Marcia, enjoyed traveling with one another when not spending time with family. Michael enjoyed any and all things to do with his family. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, including watching them play sports, especially baseball. He would visit museums often, especially those military themed. He was a talented artist and loved to draw. He was extremely proud of being a part of the U.S. Air Force and being a United States veteran. He loved to laugh and make others laugh, and whole-heartedly loved life.
Survivors include his wife, Marcia (Hines) Gillum, children, Lesley (Charles) Eaton, Barton (Amanda) Foreman, Nicole (Adam) Roberts; six grandchildren, Kaleb, Campbell, Chase, Gabe, Alex, and Megan; mother, Barbara McGawn; brother, Gary (Janine) Gillum; two nephews, Braden (Leiron) Gillum and Sean (Bree) Gillum; three great nieces and nephews; and his beloved golden-doodle, Stella. Michael was preceded in death by his father, Bobby Gillum and daughter, Stephanie Michelle Gillum on August 11, 2004.
A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, August 4, 2023 from 2-3 PM followed by a Celebration of Life at 3 PM at Leppert Mortuary – Carmel Chapel, 900 N. Rangeline Road, Carmel, Indiana.
