Len was born on January 17, 1933 in Chicago, IL to Frank and Apolonia (Gecaite) Wasilauskas. After graduating from Tilden Technical High School in 1951, he went on to study at the University of Illinois graduating in 1955 with Bachelor of Science in Marketing. On August 27th, 1955, he married the love of his life, Shirley Jean Howell. Shortly thereafter, he was called to active military duty serving in the US Army at Fort Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma. After being honorably discharged in 1960, he began his accounting career with Link Belt in Chicago, IL which later became FMC and then PTC. As Controller, he was blessed with a highly successful 26-year career with the company. After retirement in 1986, he enjoyed keeping busy as a Real Estate Broker for several years.
As a fervent and curious traveler, he enjoyed his international travel with FMC and took advantage of every opportunity afforded to him in this regard. However, as a car enthusiast, his true passion was traveling throughout the United States by automobile. Whether it be driving around Chicago, Kinmundy Illinois, Brown County Indiana, Gatlinburg Tennessee, Winter Haven Florida or Denver Colorado, Len always loved taking road trips and venturing out to visit with friends and family. Another favorite pastime for Len was his love for music. Between singing in the barbershop quartet in his college days to his fascination with the organ, he always loved music in some form or fashion.
Len is survived by his wife Shirley (Howell) of 66 years, sons Rick (Kathy) Vasil, Bob (Jeannie) Vasil, daughter-in-law Margi Vasil, eight loving grandchildren, two great granddaughters, and many other extended family members. He will be welcomed in heaven by his recently deceased son, Michael Alan Vasil, parents Frank and Apolonia Wasilauskas as well as brothers Albert and Walter Vasilauskas.
Len will be fondly remembered by family and friends as a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, and friend to everyone. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. He was unendingly proud of all his children and was always a wonderful source of support.
