Kathleen Haeny (Kathy), born May 1, 1950 in Austin, MN, died April 4, 2025 after a brief illness and is now home with her Lord, family, and friends. Kathy attended Sumner School, St. Augustine Grade School and graduated from Pacelli High School in 1968. After graduation, Kathy lived in Texas, Oklahoma, and Indiana, and retired from the State of Indiana, Office of Utility Consumer Counselor in 2014 after 21 years of service.
Kathy’s kindness and thoughtfulness were extraordinary. She gave of her time and resources to Church at the Crossing (Indianapolis), where she was a greeter and supported the note writing ministry, and a number of child-focused not-for-profits. Kathy found joy in Ladies Bible Study, her faith in Jesus, laughter, and her family. The love and humor she shared with her friends and family will be missed deeply.
She was preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Elizabeth (née Weicherding) Haeny, sister Barb Haeny, brother Richard Haeny, niece Lisa Whalen, nephew Jim McAlister, and sisters-in-law Lynn LaPlant, Barbara Jo Haeny (née Adrians), and Betty Haeny.
Kathy is survived by brothers Bob Haeny and Steven “Gus” Haeny (Suzie), and sisters Susan Whalen (Mike) and Mary McAlister. Also surviving: nephews Karl Haeny, David Haeny, Patrick Haeny, and Dan McAlister; nieces Tracy Gokey, Angie Manuel, Becky Haeny, Kristin Dalen-Bard, Mindy Everard, Sheilagh Johnson, and Anna Hartnett; and close friends Lisa Pauley and Natalie Chandler.
In accord with Kathy’s wishes, burial will be private at Calvary Cemetery in Austin, MN. In lieu of flowers, Kathy requested donations to The Alzheimer’s Association or to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation.
