Judith A. Sowers, 86, of Carmel, Indiana, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on April 30, 1938, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Judi was the devoted daughter of the late Grider and Blanche Lowe.
Judi graduated from Manual High School in 1956 and married the love of her life, William Sowers, in May 1958. Together, they built a wonderful life, sharing over 66 years of marriage. A devout Catholic, Judi was a dedicated member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church for more than 35 years.
Judi had a passion for home décor. In the 1990s, she worked in home furnishings at Sears before launching her own home design business, Designs by Judith, where she found joy in making spaces beautiful and comfortable. She also had a keen sense of fashion and loved shopping and dressing up. Judi and Bill were a dynamic team, excelling in both the printing industry and their Indy 500 suite business.
Beyond her career, Judi and Bill were deeply committed to giving back. They were especially devoted to helping students at IPS #93 near their business. Judi organized numerous Christmas parties where every child received a special gift and a visit with Santa. She was also an active volunteer with the Assistance League of Indianapolis, working tirelessly to provide clothing for children in need.
Judi’s greatest joy was her family. She was fiercely loyal and loved unconditionally. She cherished time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, hosting family gatherings and always saying "yes" to babysitting. Known as "The Euchre Queen," she was an expert at the game, often sharing winning strategies with her family. Nothing brought her more happiness than her nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren—who, in her eyes, could do no wrong.
Judi is survived by her sister, Jan Cantrell, and her children: Lori (Jeff) Norris, Brad (Michele) Sowers, and Angela (Sean) Dunlavy. She was a beloved grandmother to Joshua Johnson, Ashley (Sean) Brewer, Matthew (Anna) Norris, Zachary (Vivian) Johnson, Alexandra (James) Vollmer, Grace Dunlavy, Jacob Sowers, Chloe Sowers, and Ava Dunlavy. She was also blessed with five great-grandchildren: Mackenzie Brewer, Lucas and Luna Johnson, Caleb Norris, and Madelyn Vollmer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her parents, Grider and Blanche Lowe; and her siblings, Bobbie Lowe, Gerald Lowe, and Rose Nolan.
A visitation for Judi will be held on Friday, April 4, 2025, from 12 noon to 1:30 PM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church (14598 Oak Ridge Road, Carmel, Indiana 46032), followed by a time of remembrance at 1:30 PM and Mass of Christian Burial at 2:00 PM. A graveside service will take place immediately after at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery (9001 Haverstick Road, Indianapolis, Indiana 46240).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Judi’s honor to the Assistance League of Indianapolis, alindy.org/donate.html.
