Obituary of Freida Q. Parker
On Monday, July 31, 2023, Freida Quick Parker, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones. Freida was born on October 7, 1940, in Bennettsville, South Carolina to the late Fred and Victoria (Boan) Quick. She is survived by her husband, Lewis; their daughters, Kathryn Vorisek and Paige (Thad) Miller both of Carmel, IN; and her sister, Catherine ( Henry F.) McLaurin of Laurinburg, NC. She was the adoring “Gaga” of Jack, Parker and Charlie Miller; Ben and Caroline Vorisek. She also leaves behind many special nieces and nephews, treasured friends as well as her beloved West Highland Terrier, Beau. After graduating with a degree in music from Lander College, and a teaching certification in hand, she spent years educating students in the classroom and teaching piano lessons, just one of the ways she shared her love for music. In 1962, she married the love of her life Lewis A. Parker, beginning their wonderful life together in Laurinburg, North Carolina followed by moving to nearby Rowland for 17 years. In 1979, she and Lewis moved with Pioneer Hybrid to Tipton, Indiana. In the past 23 years, they have split their time in Carmel, Indiana and their beloved home, Carolina Dreamin’ in Ocean Isle Beach, NC and they recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. As a true southern lady, Freida had a deep love for her family and held its traditions closest to her heart. She was most proud of her two daughters, Kathy and Paige, and anyone that knew her also knew she ADORED her grandchildren Jack, Ben, Parker, Caroline and Charlie. Freida continued to lovingly share her passion for music by playing piano in her church and community. She was generous with her time volunteering through the years with the hospital guild, her church and most recently, joined the fight with her grandchildren in raising funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. She was best known for her gentle spirit, warm hospitality, southern charm and the best glass of sweet tea. A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, August 4, 2023 at Kemp United Methodist in Tipton, IN at 3:00 p.m. with a calling from 1-2:30 p.m. Memorials can be offered to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society https://www.lls.org/leukemia, in her honor. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.leppertmortuarycarmel.com for the Parker family.
