William (Bill) Newman of Matlacha Isles, FL passed away on April 24, 2023 at home. He was born in New Orleans, La. He lived some of his life in Baton Rouge, La as well as Navarre Beach, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emile J Newman and Lena Husser Newman.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years Mary Fitzpatrick Newman, children Wendy Newman and Scott Newman (Kasey), Grandchildren Mark Long Jr, Chris Long (Emily) and Alexis (Jared) Krell, Jonah and Harper. Also, several great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Josette Williams and brother Frank Newman, and their children.
Bill was an avid Louisiana State University Tiger fan having attended school there. He also loved the New Orleans Saints. Bill loved British Cars and owned several in his life. He also raced British Cars with the Sports Car Club of America and Historic Sports Racing (HSR) with his wife by his side. The team was called Cathouse Racing. He also liked to fish and boat. He also was an avid reader.
Bill served in the Vietnam war with the Army Corp of Engineers in a float bridge company. He served from May 1966 until January 1968. He was awarded several medals and an honorable discharge.
Bill retired as the Operations Manager for Lee County Solid Waste and went to work for Waste Pro USA and retired for a second time. He also had a career in the Chemical Industry in Louisiana and the Department of Environmental Protection before moving to the Florida Panhandle.
There will be a celebration of life in the future.
