William Lonzo Mobley 83 Years old of North Ft. Myers, Florida transitioned September 10, 2022. He was born on February 11, 1939 in Charlotte, North Carolina to William Alonzo & Sadie Rebecca. William was a graduate of Gompers High School, Bronx, New York with a Diploma in Auto Mechanics & Licensed Electrician. He married, Joan C. Sellers, the love of his life, in The Bronx.
William worked for the N.Y.C. Transit as an Electrician retiring after 20 years. After moving to Florida he worked for Lee County School District as a Bus Driver for 10 years.
William was a member of Ft. Myers Harley Davidson, and NYC Transit Retirees - Port Charlotte Branch. The highlight of his 32 year Retirement in Florida was becoming active Member of Harley Davidson, and being their Videographer. Capturing every Harley Davidson event, rides, special events and meetings; He constantly dazzled the Bikers with his incredible video footage - leaving them with treasured memories for life!
His surviving Children in order of birth; Laura, Joy, Lamont (deceased), Jason and Jamel; Grandsons, Tyshiem and Demetrius; Great Grandchildren, Arianna, Jonas, Guilianna, Jaiden and Tyliah; Aunts, Victoria and Mattie, plus a host of Cousins and family in Charlotte NC.; his beloved companion/nurse Orga, who traveled every 2 weeks to care for him, for over 1 year, from N.C.
A Stranger to None, always Dapper Willie, charmed everyone with his Charisma.
An only child Willie was raised in Charlotte, N.C, with this Aunts, Uncles and Cousins and had an extraordinary childhood. During the 60’s he developed a passion for fast cars and fixing them, which continued into his N.Y., adult life. Into Muscle cars in the 70’s, he caught the” Harley Davidson Bug”, and was hooked for life! Mechanical minded, Willie could talk forever, about any car and its make-up. Ask him about any model/make or year and he could tell you all about it.
Always considered the “cool Dad”, in the 70’s, kids name him “Wild Man Willie” because he would entertain the kids by doing wheelies down the block on his Harley. In 1970, he became a Charter Member of “The Chose Few Motor Cycle Club” in the Bronx. He took on the challenge of not only gutting out the property, but legally installing its electricity, in addition to being the Treasurer for it’s duration. Ensuring everything was legal, he orchestrated all the parties and events. The Club earned dozens of trophies over its lifetime.
1989, he retired from N.Y.C. Transit after 20 years of service at age 50, to assist his terminal Wife - Joan. Unfortunately He became a widower only hours after his retirement party. Despite this crushing setback, Willie moved to Cape Coral as planned, without knowing a soul. Here he enjoyed 32 years of retirement “Living the Vide Loca”, after immediately becoming an active member of the Ft. Myers Harley Davidson. Never missing a beat, they became his friends and his life “bloomed once again”! Realizing the Harley events needed to be captured and memorialized, he became their Videographer for everything Harley.
But His true passion was riding his Harley, to 48 State Rallies.
With a new found love for Gardening, that Green Thumb turned him into a Horticulturalist. Willie also became an active member of the N.Y.C. Transit Retirees of Pt. Charlotte, where he orchestrated many meetings and events.
With an impeccable mind for mechanics, Willie could fix anything, or make a tool to do the job. Always living Large, you could always find this Fly Boy dressed to impress, with his manicured nails. But he also sported his huge array of Harley Gear, leather jackets and expensive boots. Favorite past time: Willie enjoyed doing things with his family, traveling, laughing and talking about his knowledge of life to the kids - telling them to “live life to the fullest”!
Despite Hospice giving him 2 weeks to live in January, Our Hard-Core Biker persevered, rebounded and gave us an additional 9 months of his life. In the last 1-1⁄2 , Willie became completely paralyzed and dealt with it with grace; never complained. Saying “I’ve traveled the world and have had an incredible life, I’m trading in my Harley for a motorized Wheelchair”! He enjoyed his final days on earth, riding his chair to the mailbox with the dog, sitting out by the dock, spray painting his patio furniture, enjoying music, Great Grandkids, Friends and Family.
He fought the Good Fight long and hard, and finished “His Way”!
He was the epitome of “Machismo”!
WELL DONE GOOD & FAITHFUL SERVANT. He transitioned at home, holding the Bible.
