Robert Ray Read

Robert (Bob) R. Read, 87 years old, of St. James City on Pine Island, FL passed away on July 22, 2024. He was born in Lennox Township in IA on July 4th 1937 to Charles (Charlie) Read and Clara Colgan Read.

After high school graduation he joined the Air Force. He transitioned to Federal Civil Service after 4 years. After 39 years of Instructor Training he retired and traveled the country in a motorhome with his wife, Virginia Fish Read. The decided to settle in Elk City, OK to be near Virginia’s family. His entire life he enjoyed working on cars and tinkering with just about anything else. He was a charismatic person and always made friends easily.

He was preceded in death by his wife Virginia Faye Fish Read, second wife Rebecca Early Read, son Robert Russell (Marsha) Read, mother Clara Read, father Charley Read, brother Chet (Betty) Read, nephew Larry Read, sister Rose Marie Burwell.

He is survived by a sister Maureen Labree, daughter Debra (Bill) McKinney, 6 grandchildren, Ashley (Jason) O’Bara, Nathan (Courtney) Nierenhausen, Jenna, Becca, Andy and Jamie Read. 5 great grandchildren, Mallory Smith, Emma Nierenhausen, Tyler Johnson, Chase and Cayden Hellman. Five nephews, Keith, Lyle and David Burwell, Gary Read and Pete LaBree and five nieces, Hope and Mary Burwell, Julia Norem and Terri Labree.
