As an infant, Orlie moved to Buckingham, Florida with his family in 1942. Thereafter, they moved to Pine Island in the early 1950's and it was then and there where Orlie discovered his love for fishing.
After three years serving his country as a uniformed member of the United States Army, Orlie came back to Pine Island and the waterways he loved so much. It was here that he built many of his own commercial fishing boats.
Orlie was well known at many of the local fish houses for typically having extraordinary catches of the day. In addition, he was a licensed boat captain, a mentor to the many with whom he shared the water and somebody who was always generous in sharing his knowledge. Orlie even capped off his working life helping others on the water as a Captain for TowBoat U.S. of Charlotte Harbor.
The only thing Orlie loved more than fishing was Cathy, his loving wife of over 40 years. He was truly fortunate to have found someone who loved him and shared his passion for the water unconditionally and, throughout the years, this happy couple was often seen fishing side-by-side.
Orlie was preceded in passing by his parents Allene and Orlie Sr. and his brother Allen.
Left to cherish their memories of what a sweet, talented and funny man Orlie was is his wife Cathy, their many friends and, undoubtedly, an untold quantity of fish who are now breathing a sigh of relief.
A Celebration of Life is planned for a future date and details will be announced as soon as further information becomes available.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to a charity in honor of Orlie is suggested, but certainly not necessary. A great way to honor him is to continue enjoying the water and promising to catch the one that got away.
To share a story or photo, leave a tribute or to offer condolences to the family at this difficult time, please visit Orlie's memorial webpage at and sign his guestbook.
