Mary Lou Ketridge Griffith (96) died at Gulf Coast Village Care Center on December 21. Mary Lou was born on March 30th, 1927, at her family’s farm home in Bradford, Illinois. She was the daughter of the late Carl and Marie Benedict Reed. Mary Lou attended a one room, one teacher school for eight years and after completing high school and some college she worked for the Kewanee Star-Courier for many years. She married Chris Ketridge on March 18th, 1950, he passed away in 1976. After moving to Cape Coral from Kewanee, Illinois with Chris, she was employed by Gulf American Land Association as hostess and flight director. She then went into real estate sales. Mary Lou was a charter member of the Methodist Church but upon marrying J. Carl Griffith on August 18th, 1991, she joined Faith Presbyterian Church. She was a member of Palmetto-Pine Country Club where she was a women’s club champion. She was also club champion in Kewanee at Midland Country Club and Kewanee Public Golf Course. Mary Lou was awarded the Child’s Best Friend award in Kewanee in 2007 and awarded the Elmer Tabor award in Cape Coral in 2012.
Mary Lou is survived by many nieces and nephews she adored and spoke of often and also by Carl’s daughter, Carol Freeman and daughter-in-law, Cindy Griffith.
A memorial service will be held at Faith Presbyterian Church, 4544 Coronado Parkway, Cape Coral, on January 13th at 1 p.m. You may remember her through your favorite charity.
