She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years, Robert R. Farquhar Jr.. She is survived by three daughters Debora K. (Earl) Van Atta; Julie Schwind; Barbara (Jim) Lyndes. As well as six grandchildren, Amy Van Atta; Melissa (Tim) Crider: Mary Anne (Shawn) Boyle; Madeline (Andrew) Keane; Nichele (Tyler) Mather and Natalie Lyndes. In addition to eight great-grandchildren, Camryn and Collin Crider; Wesley, Clayton and Hannah Kate Boyle; Alice and Harrison Keane and Arthur Mather.
Mary Ellen worked at the Columbus Dispatch and General Electric while she supported her husband as he attended The Ohio State University. She worked in retail at Lazarus in Columbus, Ohio. She was an active member with the New Residence Club (NRC) in Cape Coral, Florida where she participated in the Twisted Turtles Group. At the NRC, she was passionate about the Boat Regatta and Buckeye Club. She was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan, and also loved watching the Tampa Bay Rays. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be buried next to her husband at Sarasota National Cemetery.
Funeral service will be held May 31, 2024 at 12:30p (please arrive 30 minutes early). The location is Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72 (Clark Rd.), Sarasota, FL 34241.
