Kurt Anthony Wright, 42, left this Earth too soon on November 9, 2016. Born January 3, 1974 to parents, Miriam and Percival Wright, at University Hospital in St. Andrew, Jamaica, Kurt loved life and all its adventures. It is impossible to sum up the beautiful and intricate complexities of his loving and curious spirit with a mere few lines in sad memorial. But sharing the gift of knowing Kurt with all who loved him, and with all whose lives he touched so deeply, is but a small gift we can offer back to his loving soul.
Family, education, career and love of travel had him moving about in the world. From his early educational years at Duhaney Park Primary School in St. Andrew, Jamaica, Kurt came to the U.S. as a boy at 11 when his family moved to Newark, NJ. He attended University High School in Newark, NJ for a time. His family then moved south to Florida where he first went to Dillard High School in Ft. Lauderdale and then to Cape Coral High School, where he was in JROTC and from where he graduated in 1992 with High Honors.
Kurt was a UF ‘Gator through and through, loving everything orange and blue. His college years (1992 – 1996) were an exciting and growing time in Gainesville at the University of Florida where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree. He joined Ford Motor Company in 1997 where he worked as a Dealer Credit Analyst for 10 years, before joining the Deerfield Beach division of the JM Family in 2007. In 2015, Kurt was promoted to District Sales Manager for Southeast Toyota Finance with JM which brought him to Charlotte, NC.
All who had the privileged of knowing Kurt knew that he loved and had a passion for: stimulating intellectual and philosophical conversations and political debates (often accompanied by supporting points and fully researched opinions), domestic and international travel, exploring cultures, sharing experiences with good people, dining (hole-in-the-wall spots, homemade and fine), his work in finance (especially the connection with good and creative professionals), learning new things, volunteering and giving of his time and resources to offer others a step up, and expanding his personal boundaries (while of course, cleverly and insightfully pressing others to expand theirs, as well) in order to connect, grow and evolve higher on this life’s journey.
On a lighter side, Kurt loved music and his Jamaican heritage, cooking and any clever new gadget, adored that Amazon could deliver anything he needed right to his door, appreciated the finer details in life like a custom fitted dress shirt and a perfectly tailored suit, and, when not cheering for his beloved UF Gators in college sports, his favorite soccer team was the London, England professional football team - the Arsenal Football Club.
As an insightful, intuitive, intelligent, empathetic man, Kurt offered all who had the distinct privilege of knowing him true friendship, steadfast loyalty, a sharp sense of humor (sometimes perfectly sarcastic, no doubt), the ability to socialize and connect with others in all environments, and the compassion to make each person in his world know they were special, valued and important. His light and his loving legacy will shine on in all who hold his memory in their hearts and in the good works and caring outreach to humanity they do in their lives.
Survived by his parents, Miriam and Percival Wright, his sister, Marsha Wright (Thomas Canty) and nephews, Quentin and Adrien Canty (all of Cape Coral, FL), godson Grey Giscombe, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, co-workers, colleagues, as well as countless dear friends and chosen family near and far. Special acknowledgement to JM Corporate Family for their support over the years.
The Wright family will receive respects and condolences at a viewing on Friday, November 18,, 2016 from 5pm – 8pm at Coral Ridge Funeral Home, 1630 SW Pine Island Rd, Cape Coral, FL 33991. A memorial service will be held at 11am on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at New Image Tabernacle Church, 81 Pondella Rd, North Fort Myers, FL 33903.
