John Anthony D'Agostino

John moved to Cape Coral in 1970 and started Florida Cycle & Chopper in 1971. He eventually became known for being a Master Craftsman of custom choppers, which earned him the name of “Chopper John”.

John was a Life Member of ABATE of Florida.

The Southwest Chapter of ABATE is the oldest Chapter in Southwest Florida, and is one of the oldest chapters in the state of Florida.

The ABATE Coalition of States was going to hold their meeting in Daytona during the 1980 Bike Week. Several Southwest Florida bikers, including Chopper John, went over there to see about forming an ABATE of Florida Chapter. Chopper John brought this information and the paperwork back with him. By September of 1980, the Southwest Chapter was born. Originally, the chapter called itself ABATE of Southwest Florida. Several years later the name was changed to the Southwest Chapter. There were 13 people who founded the Southwest Chapter in September of 1980, they were Ed and Donna Beck, Paul Camelia, John “Chopper John” D'Agostino, Tim DeLonoy, Fred Quigley, Marion “Grandpa” and Lynda “Schoolmarm” Stewart, Joyce Stoner, Rick and Donna Williams and Slammer. Ed Beck was elected the first Chapter President, however, after a few months, he had to step down for personal reasons. Brian “Hot Dog” Harney, who joined the chapter the following month, stepped in as Chapter President until 1981.

John had several other businesses that he started over the years, but none that he loved as much as “Chopper John’s”.

John loved boating, motorcycles and pretty women (not necessarily in that order). But most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandkids.

John is survived by his beloved wife Kimberly of 27 years; brother Gerry (wife Gwen); sons Tony (wife Cheryl) and Chuck (wife Jody) and three grandsons Tristan, Caden and Matthew.

A gathering for John will be held Saturday, October 19th from 12:30pm to 1:30pm at Coral Ridge Funeral Home and Cemetery Inc, 950 Chiquita Blvd. S, Cape Coral, FL 33991, with a memorial service to follow.
